LAMINAR

When a liquid flows laminarly, there is motion in one direction only and the fluid slides in layers, as it were. If the scale is very small, or the viscosity is high, then it is usually the result of laminar flow and this is not conducive for mixing. Special agitators have been developed to achieve laminar mixing.
